King of New York

Pride of The Yankees is a baseball movies about the life and struggles of Lou Gehrig.  Lou Gehrig was a young baseball player who had a lot of potential, directed in 1942 by Sam Wood. Lou had to turn in his career in early because of a disease which he later died from at age 37 a year before this movie was released. This movie in my opinion, was a rough one to watch, but it emphasizes the things he had to go through in order to play baseball. His mother didnt want him to play ball so he had to sneak around to play baseball where he eventually signs with his favorite team, the New York Yankees (great team btw). He has to win the team over, especially the likes of Babe Ruth, which he eventually does.  During the movie, Gehrig trips over some bats and is made fun of by a girl Eleanor, whom he eventually falls in love with and asks her to marry him.  His mother isnt too fond of this idea either, but he finally stands up to her. Perhaps one of the most  moving parts of the movie however was when Lou visited a young crippled boy and promised to hit two home runs in a game, and he did. Lou was a team player, he wasnt about himself, as his disease got worse he was playing worse and worse and he actually went to the coach and benched himself. This just showed about how he was a selfless player and he was a team player.
